Clark Kent Soars Again

It has amazed me how we have so fallen in love with a comic book character that we have been compelled to remake the story of Superman a minimum of 10 times (including cartoons, movies and television series). All praises to the DC Comic Book Company for latching on to what has become a literal gold mine. But honestly, how many different ways can this story be told?

Jor-el, a despondent daddy from planet Kryton ejects his son, Kal-El into outer space. The planet of his final destination? Planet Earth, where he is found and raised by Martha and Jonathan Kent.  An elderly and childless couple from the heartland of America, who name him Clark.  He spends his youth trying to fit in while simultaneously hiding his true identity and alien powers.

Now as you can imagine, Clark starts to develop some serious psychosis issues. Who am I?  Where am I from?  Who's my daddy?  Why did they abandon me? You get the picture.

Well time passes and Clark grows to adulthood and moves to the big city of Metropolis. Now even though he has peepers that allow him to see through anything but lead, he starts wearing horn rimmed glasses. He thinks they make him look smart and no one can tell who he really is.  Duh!  How smart is that?

He gets a job as a news reporter for the local paper where he meets a "hottie" named Lois Lane.  Now like I told you before, dude already has identity issues, and I figure this babe just took him over the edge.  We've all heard the stories before.  A big city huzzie, turns out the slow unexposed country boy. She must have really done a number on dude's head. He starts stalking her, showing up everywhere she goes, and trying to impress her.

He starts running around town in tights and of all things, a red cape.  He starts getting in fights with the local bad boys and thugs, which is easy to do in that get up.

Sadly, the huzzie pays him little attention until she hears some of the girls in the breakroom, talking about the new hunk in town who likes to take his clothes off in phone booths. Now Lois is a kinky kind of a gal, and as she likes her men a little twisted, this kinda turns her on.  We all can guess how this story ends.

Anyway, in June 2013, the latest installment of the Superman saga will continue with the "Man of Steel."  Based on this trailer the production appears to be quick paced and full of adventure with some great special effects. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film stars British actor Henry Cavill and features stars like Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne.  With a cast like this, we should all expect an exceptional addition to this apparently never ending story.
