This is the worst
example of a member of congress wasting tax dollars I have ever seen. Our country has multiple problems that need
immediate attention and repair. Our
elected officials have no time to be spending on nonsense like this.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R) Tx |
I expect Senator Ted Cruz thinks he was being especially
clever, but each and every one of the American people should be completely
outraged. Tying
up the senate floor by reading Dr. Seuss’s “Green
Eggs and Ham” and passages from the Bible for more than 20 hours is not governing. It’s a demonstration of his lack of concern
for the well-being of this nation. It is
a violation of the oath he took in becoming a servant of the people.
We
are all familiar with James Stewart’s classic “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington”
and the memorable filibuster demonstrated in that film. But in that memorable
scene, Mr. Smith spoke continuously and to the point of exhaustion about the
issue on the floor. He did not spout fairy
tales, nursery rimes or a four years olds favorite bedtime story.
If Senator Cruz, who read the story exceptionally well, is
so motivated I suggest he visit any of the DC elementary schools or better yet,
let him return to Texas. I am certain in
an elementary school he will find captivated audiences and his appreciation of
early childhood literature will be in good company. But on Capitol Hill in these trying times,
rhetoric in the senate chamber must be directed at moving the country forward.
I’m not hatin, I jus sayin…
